Rules

The Chicago International Poster Biennial competition is open to all designers and artists worldwide of posters that were printed and published from 2008-2010.

REQUIREMENTS

• Submitted, printed posters will not be returned and will be considered the property of the “Chicago International Poster Biennial Association.”
• Postage and other incidental expenses of shipping and customs must be covered by the sender.
• Legal responsibilities and permissions must be covered by sender.
• Poster entries MUST be submitted via this website as digital files, using the online entry form. Through the electronic submission process, an entry form and labels will be automatically generated, which must be printed and accompany the posters in shipment. Information on the entry form will be used in the exhibition’s catalog and other Biennial publications.
• The technical specifications of the files are: A4 size, 300 dpi, and CMYK in high resolution JPEG format.
• The organizing committee will be entrusted to make decisions for unforeseen events.
• There is no fee for entry to the Biennial competition.

CLOSING DATE

• All entries must be received at the committee office of the Biennial address by post on or before 22 May 2010.
• Please allow for shipping time and clearing of U.S. customs. There will be no extension to the deadline.
• The CIPBA encourages designers to share shipping with colleagues, in order to reduce waste, save cost, and protect the environment. Multiple entry forms and posters may be contained in a single shipping tube.
• Packaging is the responsibility of the sender. Package all posters securely. Damaged posters may be refused from judging.

ELIGIBILITY

• All entries must be designed and printed between 1 January, 2008 to 1 May 2010.
• Posters which have already been entered in a CIPBA competition may not be re-entered.
• Entries can be no smaller than 16 x 22 inches (41 x 56 cm) or larger than 47 x 71 inches (120 x 180 cm).
• Entrants may submit up to FIVE works for each artist / designer. Series of no more than THREE posters that constitute a single work will be accepted as a single entry.
• Participants must submit TWO original prints of each poster.
• Published posters printed by offset methods or silkscreen prints will be accepted. Posters printed by digital means, which have been commissioned by a client AND published will also be accepted.
• In case of an unexpectedly large number of entries, the CIPBA reserves the right to form a pre-selection committee, appointed by the CIPBA President, to assist the jury.

AWARDS

• Poster works deemed worthy by the international jury will become finalists of the 2nd Chicago International Poster Biennial.
• Finalists will be exhibited in the public Biennial exhibition in late summer, 2010 in Chicago and will be part of the 2010 CIPB Catalog.
• One gold medal and two silver medals of excellence will be awarded.
• The Society of Typographic Arts (STA) Medal will be awarded to one poster for typographic excellence.
• The Project Osmosis Medal will be awarded to one poster exhibiting excellence in a social theme.
• No financial awards are guaranteed, but the CIPBA may add financial prizes depending on funding.
